When does this game take place?
This game functions in real time to the degree of what day and month it is, this is the same in game. However, the year is 1998.
How old do you have to be to apply?
17.
Why do NC-17 posts have to be locked?
The Terms of Service agreement.
Why can't my characters get it on during a party thread?
We'd like party threads to not be locked so potential players can see our mass character interaction. This means nothing NC-17 in party threads.
Why can't my kid dress scene/emo/hipster?
This RPG is set in 1998 and though some of the styles existed they were not largely available to the masses in malls.
Why can't I use Johnny Depp as my Kevin Entwhistle?
Because Jonnhy is over 30 and almost all PBs of that age group will be rejected. Should you wish to make the plea of using younger icons please contact the mods.
My girl is 5'5" and 101 pounds but curvy. Is that good?
You decide your character's weight and height, but should another character call them a bag of bones you can't fuss because realistically it's not true. You can use these scales if you need help.
Why does my character description have to match my PB?
Yes. Your PB is the face of your character.
How often can I change PBs?
Once and it should be noted that your old PB will not be used in game for six months so that the players can get adjusted to not associating that face and character. If you are active in the game for a year than that PB will be permanently retired.
Why can't I use a song lyric for my lj-cut?
Even though the 4 W's should explain your thread, a nice cut that is a line from the thread or describing it helps a skimmer know what they are about to read.
Can I back date a post?
Yes, but only in the IC Community and in that it should only be backdated a week at the most.
What is this time warp business?
Since Crynhoi collected more players and characters during a short period of time in the summer and spring of 2007, we decided to extend the time before the big Hogwarts Battle. We did this by making days in real time last for two days in-game time. This took effect April 1st, 2007. So April 1st and 2nd for us were just the 1st in school. This lasted until the battle, May 2nd in-game and June 10th, 2008 in real time. After that, the rest of June will be considered May and characters will take time to grieve and act accordingly. We lost the in-game month on June entirely. When July 1st, 2008 started us back on track with July 1st, 1998.
Why do place holders have to be locked?
So it won't clutter the RPG community and potential players only see open, working, or complete threads. Please remember to unlock after filling in the starter unless it is NC-17.
Do I need a picture of my PB in my profile?
Yes and preferably one that looks like your character currently.
How long do I have to fill out the user info?
Ten days from your character being put into the friend button.
When I get a new character what do I do?
After setting up a journal and uploading icons do an OCC intro of yourself (if new) and an intro of your character. Don't forget to ask for former flings, relationships, friends and enemies! Please respond to every character description even if they wouldn't be friends.
Can my journals have titles?
If you want then yes, but it is advised that journal titles are more common as an internet diary tool than a written device. NOTE: RP threads never have titles and "Owl to ______" is always written as a title for owls.
What is ChipsAhoi?
It is a very random community for things not relating to the game. Wanna tell us about your character's new movie? Have a Crynhoi playlist you need to share? You must show us this new graphic you made? Do it at ChipsAhoi!
How many characters can I have?
Six, but only if you can really pull it off. Three have to be full time, two half time and one part time.
What is full time, half time, and part time?
Full Time- Post two journals & participate in two threads with that character
Half Time- Post one journal & do one thread with this character.
Part Time- Reply in journals like crazy and one thread or party thread (if there is one that month!)
How long must I wait between characters?
Three weeks between your first four, but you can turn the application in on week 2. Every character after 4 is passed on your own personal activity level.
How long are character and PB holds?
Five days. No extensions unless you ask nicely!
What if I need to talk to the mod but not in email?
Get yourself a Gmail account and the mods will talk to you there. Gmail is great and automatically saves chats! You do not need an invite any longer and everyone can join, just as with other email sites. No, we don't work for Google, we just love Gmail. However, if you'd like to talk with us on AIM and we are not on, then email us that much and we'll do our best.
Why do I have to ask for pregnancies, miscarriages, abortions, marriage, rapes, engagements, etc.?
Well marriages and engagements are sweet and though you don't need to ask a heads up would be nice! Everything else if done while in game whether RPed out or not needs to be okayed by the mods. These are all serious issues and we want to be sure you know what you're getting into.
Why can't I randomly change my characters appearance and history?
Mainly because your character was accepted on your application.
Examples:
His parents divorced.
*Acceptable- adding because his mother cheated with her female secretary.
*Unacceptable- changing that a parent had died instead of divorcing. These two events would have very different effects on any character.
Her eyes were brown.
*Acceptable- Her brown eyes have flecks of gold.
*Unacceptable- She has one brown eye and one blue eye.
Why should my character reply to a journal when it's not in their personal cannon?
We are all for personal cannon and respect that. No one is pressuring you to reply to journals, but it should be known that replying to journals will give you fun interaction and connections you may never get in threads. Also it encourages other players to return the favor and comment your journal.
I am having problems with another player because- they pick on my character in game/gang up on me/we had an argument/they stole plot/they dropped out of plot/etc?
If things can not be solved between the two of you please bring it to the attention of the mods. We will assist the best we can.
Who makes your layouts?
Carriep63. We edit them, but we get the majority of our layouts there.

***What's Sangster Institute?***
The Battle at Hogwarts on May 2nd, 1998 caused a lot of damage to the school. Because of this damage, there has to be a lot of work put in to repairing it and it will not be ready to reopen for the '98-'99 school year. Sangster Institute is being used in it's place. The school layout will be posted soon, so we'll link it as soon as possible.
**Did the Hogwarts' Express take them there?
Yes, but only as far as Maillag, Scotland. Then they rode in a boat donated by Durmstrang Institute.
**Why are the kids that just graduated there?
Technically the battle left N.E.W.T.S canceled. They'll be staying at the school for three months and will take their tests in December.
